Southern cooking is famous worldwide. It ranges from greasy chicken and dumplings to creamy banana pudding, and you’ll find many variations across all southern states. With so much diversity, though, it can be hard to figure out which cuisine breaks the mold and is worth ordering. Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine is exactly that—a restaurant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, that serves up comfort food, but with a southern twist.
Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine is a new casual dining concept that provides a customized dining experience. Their menu features Southern comfort foods such as chicken-fried steak, fried chicken, and mac and cheese. Old Lady Gang is located in Atlanta’s Midtown area, one of the city’s hottest food destinations. It is first opened in Atlanta in 2016 and is the brainchild of Chef Angela White, who spent time in North Carolina as a chef and restaurant owner before returning to her hometown of Atlanta. She opened her restaurant in the Edgewood neighborhood of Atlanta, which, as you might suspect, is named for its close proximity to the Edgewood MARTA Station.
I had the pleasure of visiting Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine on a recent trip to Atlanta. The restaurant is in Atlanta’s Ponce City Market. The building is impressive in itself. It used to be a Sears and Roebuck building and was later an indoor mall. The renovation of the building is extraordinary. It is a large building that has restaurants, coffee shops, and shops. Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine is in a corner of the main floor. The service was very good. The menu is large and was hard to decide what to order. I ordered the shrimp and grits, corn bread and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits and gravy were so good. The other items were also very good. I especially like the shrimp and grits
The team behind Old Lady Gang is taking a break from their usual Asian-American fare to show off their skills with Southern Cuisine. The restaurant just opened in the Westside Provisions District and is much further up the road from what I would have expected to see. I’m not sure how I feel about this type of cuisine being so far away from Downtown Atlanta considering how popular it is. Makes me wonder if the food is any good. I guess I’ll find out in a couple of weeks.
Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine, a gem of a place in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, serves fine Southern food with a twist – and it is delicious. In addition to the great food, the restaurant’s atmosphere is relaxing and fun – and it is definitely Instagram-worthy. The restaurant is owned by three sista chefs – Michelle Weaver, Porsha Roberts, and Keisha Thompson – and we were there on a night when Michelle was cooking.
Our meal started with yummy cornbread (made by Michelle) and an amazing five-cheese macaroni and cheese. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, which was the star of the show. Michelle makes the grits from scratch, and the grits are amazing. If you’re in Atlanta and craving Southern Food, you should be sure to stop by Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine. It was the first time I ever had Southern food and I am glad I tried it out with my friend. I had the Fried Chicken, Mac, and Cheese with a side of collard greens and cornbread. Yummy! If I could give this place a rating, I would definitely rate it 10 stars. My friend and I definitely enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent, the waitress was very nice and patient. The restaurant was very clean and most of the customers were older aged. We definitely recommend this place.
