The history of Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Atlanta starts with the land it sits on. The land that Arlington Memorial Park currently sits on was once owned by the Native Americans in the area who settled the land. In the early nineteenth century, the land became owned by a man named Judge Isaac Brown. Judge Brown was a very prominent person in this area and was later called the “father of Sandy Springs.”
The monuments in Memorial Park are very interesting to observe. But, on the other hand, they are in terrible condition. The park is located in Sandy Springs, GA, and is not very close to the city. It’s a nice place for a drive, but nothing more.
Monument Avenue in Richmond, VA is one of the most beautiful boulevards in the United States. In the middle of the street are several statues; some are of Civil War heroes, others are of people from the Civil Rights era. The statues are surrounded by a wide, landscaped median that is perfect for walking, jogging, and biking.
There is another cemetery in Sandy Springs, outside of the city limits and located in unincorporated Fulton County. The cemetery is called Memorial Park at Sandy Springs and can be found at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Mount Vernon Highway. Unfortunately, the cemetery is an abandoned shell of its former self, with only a few crumbling tombstones and decaying crypts.
If you have had a close family member die, you want to honor them at their funeral. The most common ways to do that are to have a service, have a memorial program, put flowers on the grave, or a bench in a memorial garden. Some people just can’t face going to a funeral, but then they feel guilty because they weren’t there to pay their respects. Others, like me, just want to honor a loved one and don’t want to go to a funeral (let’s face it, funerals are depressing). So, this is how we did it. We had a memorial service, and my husband asked the minister to say a few words about his father
Although there are no set prices, memorial services are generally anywhere from $1,200 and up.

The memorial park is well kept, and clean, and I would say has been expanded since I last visited almost 15 years ago. One of the main things they have added is a kid’s playground. There is an entrance fee to the park, but that fee is refunded when you purchase a memorial plaque. The fee is $25.00, and you can have up to 4 lines of text engraving. Plaques are made of granite and range from $25.00 to $7,500.00. I didn’t see any pricing for the bronze memorials. There is a 3.5% credit card fee for all purchases. They have a complete list of costs and other information on their website.
Beginning May 1, 2017, fees are no longer waived for the new Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. Please contact Memorial Park for full details.
